Tailgating before or after a football game has indeed become an American tradition. Usually held two or three hours before the game begins,it adds to the vibrant atmosphere of the total football event. Everyone is optimistic that their team will win. The term, tailgating was coined back in 1957 when a wife of a team doctor, opened the tailgate on her station wagon and had sandwiches and lunch items for her children and friends. When a reporter announced that she was having a car picnic for them, she replied with “it is more of a tailgate party”.

So, what are the things to consider if you plan to host a tailgate party? Here are some guide to help you out.

1. Plan ahead. Party equates to good food. Like any other party, preparing a menu and a list of the items you need will help to be sure that everything is loaded before leaving home. Choice of food can be as simple as hot dogs, hamburgers, or BBQ. Its also nice to add some side dishes and desserts. Don’t forget to have a cooler full of various drinks.

2. Bring in must-have tailgating gears. As an outdoor event, it is important to have with you items such as BBQ grills, camp chairs, party blankets or tables. Also, trash bags, sun block, napkins, utensils, plates, glasses and ice could be some of the most essential tailgate items. Another essential tailgating gear is a first aid kit. Rain wears and flashlights can be brought as well.

3. Arrive at least three hours early at the game site. This way, you can find the perfect parking spot. A good place would be in a grassy area and at the end of a line.Stay at least one hour after the game.

4. Wear your favorite team colors or tailgate gear. Some people prefer to be dressed in their favorite football gears as a sign of identity or merely for fun. Others decorate their tents, campers, or cars with logs and flags to be easily spotted by friends.

Few offer water sports such as the huge ship enjoyment tube. And the good thing is it’s so easy compared to, for example, water skiing. This feature makes it suitable for all age groups and so a great activity for the whole family. As simple as it is, however, some precautions are necessary. Here are some pointers on how one can get the most out of your towable tubing experience.
First, let’s look at what is towable. Essentially, the towing means is pulled behind a boat experience on the inside or one of several types of “towable”. These towable boats can take many forms, but the tubes are the most popular (like water skiing tubes). Tubes come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, so our first tip is to buy your tube and the cord that connects it to the boat.
TOWABLES are made of artificial fibers like nylon, polyester, PVC or neoprene. Polyester is more durable neoprene, while the more comfortable and more expensive. If you have children, you might prefer the latter.
After the matter of form. TOWABLE come in a wide range of shapes and sizes. The original design is the donut. This is most appropriate for adults who can not sit at the top. However, it is not suitable for smaller people to sit.In addition to the donut rolls easily unsuitable for young children.
Then there are the tubes of the cover are flat and shaped delta. These are great for multiple users. These can turn more easily so they are more suitable for teenagers and young adults.
Then we have “the walk” and “take advantage of the ‘tubes. The former are like small boats and are therefore ideal for young children and those requiring a gentler experience.’ Ride-ons’ are long and narrow TOWABLE.Sometimes called torpedo style, they can sit up to six drivers. So they are ideal for groups of young riders seeking speed and thrills.
Finally end of the rocker is towable emotion that have wings. These are examples of concept tubes that are directed to the Thrillseeker.
As for the cables connecting the towing of the boat, they are classified according to the number of riders allowed. Towing cables must be 50 and 65 feet in length.
Now that you’ve bought your towable and rope, it’s time to see some tips to use. First, always check any warning indicators on the water tubes. Read and follow manufacturer’s specifications on such factors as the number of pilots, their maximum size and weight, and the maximum recommended speed limits. Then the tubers should be instructed on how to position the water tube Remember to always wear a personal flotation device while in the water.
The next thing to do is find the area of ??water to the trailer. To be sure, you should allow at least 100 feet of open water on both sides of the boat and at least 3000 feet ahead. Apart from the driver, the boat must have a ‘spotter’ to check if riders fall off. The spotter can then alert other boats in the area by waving a flag.
It is also essential that the boat handler be familiar with all regulations affecting this stretch of water that is. Speed ??limits are influenced by the water conditions. Wake up, for example, can be dangerous for trawlers so that they slow down. And it must take into account the ability of the riders in the tube towing. There are various speed limits that apply to riders of all ages, for example.
If you follow these simple tips, you are assured of a safe and fun towable session. TOWABLE, whether marine or fresh water towables, offering a true experience of water sports for the whole family. In fact, the perfect activity for large groups of all kinds.

The introductory paragraph should begin with a projector. This is a statement to draw the reader wants to read the rest of the essay. The following phrases should be broad and narrow focus on the work and the loss, the result is usually the last sentence of the introductory paragraph. There are generally three body paragraphs, each starting off with one of the most important ideas of the thesis statement. The following phrases to describe and analyze the main point. Details of specific examples should be included to reinforce key ideas. The conclusion summarizes the test and gives a final perspective on the topic. It often begins with a paraphrase of the original thesis statement, and sometimes a prediction for the vision presented in the trial.

Spelling is a very important aspect of writing the test that many students overlook.It important to be consistent in his essay. This applies to many things, such as the spelling of words (some people switch between the American and Australian English / United Kingdom), the spelling and capitalization of words. For example, should, if the Australian English / English to do your test. You can not “recognize” and then “organize” the word. We need to “organize”. Even if the first letter of the “Church” is the first time, can not refer to him as “the church” later in his essay.

With topic sentences at the beginning of each new paragraph is essential to ensure that your essay is well organized and well structured. It also ensures that the essay flows logically and makes good reading. A topic sentence must do two things to discuss the new theme and shows how this new project will, if its argument to answer the question open to enter the open support.

Shark and oceanic research needs better public outreach. It’s a simple fact that the public is largely uninformed when it comes to raw data, current research and even methodology.

Science is not fun for the general public. But is is also the general public who can be moved to push for legislation, fund research, and to become aware of the current status of wildlife.

The great disconnect of our times.

So what’s with this site?

What you’re looking at is a perfect synthesis of research, video, and interactive research data for the general public. Bringing raw science into the living room, office, and iPads all across the country.

Kudos, we could use more of this. Especially like the tagging videos replete with real action and raw emotion set against a backdrop of science.

Looks like a winning Discovery Channel show to us, is there something in the wings?

Note: Little Friday morning meteo update at the end.
—————————————————————–

I’m not a huge fan of Jaws related stuff.

But when it’s my buddies that do that kinda stuff, then it’s different.

This video is a tribute to Griffin.
It’s not the first time that someone sails from Maliko to Jaws. That’s actually how Kauli did it his first time. He told me:”it took me two hours to sail upwind, then I sailed there for three hours and then one more hour to sail downwind. After six hours sailing and that kind of emotions, I was completely exhausted when I got back…”

It took Griffin 1h 15min to sail upwind to Jaws. Which means either that he had stronger wind or that he sails upwind better than Kauli!
It doesn’t matter if he stayed cautiously on the shoulder. What I like is the spirit.
Great little video by Chris Murray.

The same day (Tuesday) another friend sailed Jaws for his first time. Taken from Jimmie Hepp’s FB gallery, this is Nick Warmuth.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 229px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DXdeKNwqJZs/TVTTgTyHvQI/AAAAAAAAJWk/rHBleWQH1RU/s400/nick%2Bwarmuth%2Bat%2Bjaws.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572311190983916802" />

This is a very nice presentation of Jaws paddle-in action.
What bugs me a bit is that my friend Marcio Freire has been surfing Jaws for years, but only now that the sponsored guys are doing it too, they get the media coverage. Oh well, that’s how it goes…

Chuck Patterson doesn’t surf Jaws. He skies it.

Allright, this is not Jaws.
As the comments (thanks!) pointed out, it’s someone called Corey at Margaret River and that is an amazingly big and beautiful wave. Taken from this gallery.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 238px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZvHcuyBL954/TVTWxiv_MzI/AAAAAAAAJWs/p8ewwZ0zO_4/s400/francisco%2Bgoya%2Bmagic%2Bwave.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572314785594159922" />

This one ain’t Jaws either, but it’s the thickest lip I’ve ever seen… we’re talking waves, you guys.
Taken from this gallery.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_czUfPbJKZic/TVTYY23ra8I/AAAAAAAAJW8/KNjVABdLtlk/s400/thick%2Blip.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572316560521653186" />

This one has nothing to do with windsurfing or surfing, but I ran into it and… I have to embed it!

Today I surfed 4 and a half hours straight. By far, my longest surfing session ever. One of my favorite breaks, 2 to 8 people, chest to head high with overhead sets, very clean.
From 8 to 12.30 I think I caught at least 30-35 waves…
Does anyone have a spare pair of shoulders?

————————————————————
Little Friday morning update. Here’s this morning’s weather map. Nice, I really dig north swells.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 293px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N0RaTWvAWis/TVVodRzjctI/AAAAAAAAJXM/QQUCNl52QOs/s400/11.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572474966145987282" />

And this is the NW buoy readings: already 11 feet, 12 sec from 30 degrees (I like this direction even better!). I’m going to go surf a couple of hours now (7am) and then I have a lovely 4 hours shift of work.
I’ll clock off at 2pm exactly when the low tide will be at the bottom… I like when the stars line up like this. If that front on Oahu doesn’t do weird things with the wind, I can see some more surfing in my future.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_czUfPbJKZic/TVVodNVB4BI/AAAAAAAAJXE/i8sIbQXuJRM/s400/buoyplotLarge.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572474964944216082" />

I have never heard of the place, and the images feature a graphic expose of commercial animal processing.

Nothing more.

In the U.S. and Europe animal processing has long since been sanitized behind industrial fortresses that bring whole animals in one end and spit out boxes of product out the other.

Westerners are, simply put, largely divorced from our food chain.

Japan’s food processing is still in many ways very Asian, where the public is invited to see or admire freshness, and purity of product. Unlike western values that feature stamped on dates, Asian cultures like to see and be engaged with their food sources. It’s how they do food.

It’s a cultural difference that Japan is being overwhelmingly attacked for. Their public display of food and food processing exploited by dozens of western based conservation groups.

I am struck by the efforts of so many conservation groups who are rabid in their individual assessment of Japans and China’s food chain. Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and it’s loon fringe being the worst of the lot, having their own reality television show with regular on screen quotes by western “vegans” who alternately decry whale harvests while demonising Japan in the process.

For Japan, reeling from multi-pronged attacks on tuna, sharks, whales, and dolphins, not to mention five or six species of fish, I find myself asking “where does Japan go from here?”.

The ugly issues with all of this Japan focus on food, and one not being discussed, is that this entire effort is an overwhelming western effort. These are western faces demanding Japanese people change what they eat.

Really?

For any conservation effort to be successful you need the ability to reverse positions and see your conservation opponents view. Right now Japan is under siege by a western generated cacophony of what might be viewed as culinary imperialism. A lot of how Japan harvests food is repugnant to western eyes long since divorced from the blood and gore.

A quick look, and by no means an in depth one, over the last two months of western media hits against Japan reveals a disorganized patchwork of many conservation agendas:

It’s quite a storm of protest and one I fear will just have Japan hunker down and play turtle without getting any concessions to sustainable harvests, which at the end of the day would be a big win.

Without a doubt there are some serious issues with species loss and rampant over harvest of animals – worldwide. But this focus on Asians by westerners, I fear, will ultimately backfire under a counter, and western conservation driven, nationalistic blow back.

How long can westerners keep up their demands on what Asians can and cannot put into their mouths?

How long will the Japanese stand for this growing patchwork of food based conservation agendas and increasingly shrill conservation noise?

How does Japan change, when it seems every week a new food source is identified and a new western conservation group, using in-your-face conservation tactics and media hits gleaned from other groups, goes on the attack?

I am all for conservation, but is not time that individual groups look up from their pet projects in Japan and Asia to take a larger view of how this growing group effort to conserve wildlife is being perceived in Asia?

We all want to see change but this recent trend to “Jump on Japan” does not leave any room for compromise, nor does it allow Japan and Japanese people to assess their own inalienable rights to choose what they consider a food source or not.

The wind was the famous Maui’s N2N (nuking to nothing). Thank God (a very particular god named Jeff Henderson), I had the best sail on the planet to handle those conditions: a 4.7 Superfreak.
It still goes in the lulls and it still generates enough power when I pump it (a 4.5 would not be quite enough). And you can still hang on it when it’s blowing like stink (a 5.0 would be unconfortable).
I love my 4.7. It’s the best sail I’ve ever had. Period.
Here it is in a photo at Hookipa a couple of months ago.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_czUfPbJKZic/R3NZ1n1yoRI/AAAAAAAABJ0/r3CJ8f8cndU/s400/40D__MG_8700adj.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5148557576777146642" />

It’s a dance never before imagined. These massive predators — lions of this oceanic food chain — swimming on the Atlantic’s surface by night and by day, sinking blindly to its inky depths, so far down no light could ever reach them, no creature could ever be seen.

And it’s a winter ritual that has scientists amazed.

“Nobody had any idea they were doing this,” Steve Campana, head of the Dartmouth-based shark research team that made the discovery, said in a recent interview.

“We found that all of these sharks are leaving Canadian waters in the late fall and when they swim out, they inevitably run into the Gulf Stream, this giant current of warm water that comes up from the Caribbean. Within a day or two of hitting the Gulf Stream, every single blue shark started this wild diving behaviour whereby they would spend the night up in the surface waters — in the top 30 or 50 feet (nine or 15 metres) — and every day they would spend down in incredible depths, as far as a kilometre below the surface.

Complete Story.

My home town football team (soccer for the americans) is doing good.

It’s the best team we had since the glorious times in which Maradona played in Napoli. It’s such a pleasure to watch them that I’m starting to put alarm clocks at 4am to watch the game online (when it’s not on FSC, in which case I’ll record it).
The are actually second in the rankings and I don’t care if they’ll win or not… they’re making us dream, that’s for sure!

That’s why I thought about doing something to show my support from this remote island. So I drew their logo on my lovely white Superfreak (try do that with any other sail…).
I did it on the downwind side (when riding a wave), because that’s the side that would show when Jimmie Hepp takes his photos from the rocks.

The plan worked beautifully!

BTW, sailing with a broken pinky is no big deal! I guess not all bones in the foot have the same importance…

This is to thank the provider of the V.I.P. vantage point from where I shot yesterday. It was like shooting from a starship and I could keep my foot elevated…

Junko rips. There should be a bumper sticker that says that!

I’m on the waiting list to try that board.

Kai bailing out. Oh, I’m supposed to try a bunch of Simmer boards too…

Federico. I like this shot because it shows the reality of the conditions that my closeup radical moves don’t really show. Waves are sectiony (very west). The wind is veeery offshore (check Elena’s direction on the outside) and very gusty and patchy (she’s in a gust and 10 yards in front of her there’s a big lull). Not particularly easy and quite physically demanding, you guys.

Nonetheless, not having to go to a wedding today, someone is happy to go back to the usual 5 hours straight routine of sailing.

Allright, the good news is that I’m back in the water. The bad news is that I have to go back to work too! So no more extended photo shoots anymore. Fortunately Jimmie is on the rocks and Franky will be back soon.
Oh, I just finished editing my last gopro video. I’ll let you guys know when it goes online.

PS. Volcom pro at Pipeline is live online.

The other day I watched a surf movie called Stoked and broke.

It was very refreshing when compared to the average pros only super high performance 99% of the rest of the surf movies.
Here’s some interesting quotes from it:

I see the finances of this present world just holding kids back of being what they really wanna be, because it’s basically financially impossible to just be a free spirit, almost.

You can live it though, if you really think about it. If it’s really something you wanna do, you can do anything you want in this world actually.

And what I say to anybody that wants to do something that’s going to allow them to be free is: stay focused.

Do whatever it takes to keep your focus there and don’t let anyone else tell you different, because if you believe it, you’ll feel it and you’ll do it.

There’s a lot of stuff that goes on but… just keep it happy and simple.

Very inspiring. To the point that, after watching it, I thought once again that I should do a movie too.
Right, like that Oahu movie that I never did… movies take way too much time, they’re not for me.
But wait a moment, didn’t I start to edit that Oahu movie?
I went looking for it and I actually did found it. So I slapped it on youtube… nobody would have seen it on my hard disk! Highly doubt I will ever finish it, but in the meantime… enjoy!

PS. The first ASP event of the season is on at Snapper Rocks.
